According to BBC news, it is unusual that Aurora can appear on Northern across Norfolk, Essex and Scotland this month (usually appear on September - November). But, many people has also seen and tweet it, and the #AuroraWatch UK was tweeting also about the Aurora. It was Aurora Borealis that appear that night.
According to Wikipedia, An aurora is a natural light display in the sky particularly in the high latitude regions, caused by the collision of energetic charged particles with atoms in the high altitude atmosphere.
Northern Lights generally appear as spectacular waves or streaks of pale green and pink, but shades of red, yellow, blue and violet have also been spotted by stargazers
